Frequently Asked Questions

Q: How do I only accept comments from trusted commenters?

A: To only allow trusted commenters to publish comments:

  1. Go to Blog Settings
  2. If you're in Basic Settings, click the General tab and under Comments, select Allow comments from Anyone.
  3. If you're in Detailed Settings, click the Feedback tab and under Comments, select Allow comments from Anyone.
  4. Go to Comment Email Filter's settings (either on the blog level or the system level), enter the email addresses for everyone you want to comment and then check the Junk comments with non-trusted email addresses.

Junk comments with non-trusted email addresses.

  5. Click Save Changes

Now only comments with a trusted email address will be published. The rest will be junked!

Arvind - is Comment Email Filter compatible with MT 4.01? The download screen shows that it's designed for MT 3.3X.

If it's not yet compatible, are you working on an MT4 version?

Thanks for your superb website - not only is it an excellent resource for MT users, but it's a nice example of what can be done! (I want to have nice comment previews and a typeable CAPTCHA like you do!)

Hi Kelly, give Comment Email Filter a whirl. I don't see why it shouldn't be compatible with MT4 but I really haven't tested it out! If there are any problems running it on MT4, do post a comment and I'll see what I can do (though it, unfortunately, won't be any time soon!)

With regards to the comment preview, check out this tutorial which describes a method of doing it :) And the textually CAPTCHA is thanks to the wonderful Comment Challenge - which had to be slightly hacked to work with MT4.

Hi Arvind! Thanks for replying to my comment so quickly!

I went to download the Comment Email Filter plugin, but got this message regardless of whether I tried the .tar.gz version or the .zip version:

Page not found - /comment-email-filter/downloads/Comment-Email%20Filter_1.11.tar.gz

Maybe it's vanished?

I posted without thinking - I replaced the %20 with a dash (turning the filename into Comment-Email-Filter.tar.gz) and it downloaded just fine! You might want to check your link?

Greetings, Arvind! I've been trying Comment Email Filter on MT 4.01 beta 2 for about a week. The plugin seems to regularly "lose" the email addresses I've input (from within blog settings -> plugins). Not sure if this happens after a refresh or at some other periodic time.

I downloaded Comment-Email Filter_1.11.tar.gz just fine, but I get errors when trying to untar it in Apple OSX 10.4. It gives me an "Folder not found" error.

The zip works just fine.

I'm running MT 4.01, and Comment Email Filter no longer seems to work. I get spammed regularly by the same email address(es), and even though I've added them to CEF's "banned" list, they still get through every time.

Hey Arvind, I'm unable to download either the zip or tar for the file (v 1.11). I tried replacing the space character but it won't work. Looks like this has been a problem for awhile. Can you fix it? :) Thanks!
