Template Shelf will automatically add its sidebar widget to the template editing screen. The drop down menu provide you with the various template types (or filters from the main template listing). Simply click it and select the template type you would like to filter by and the list will update itself automatically.

To edit a template in dialog mode, when you hover on the template's row, an icon will appear on the right. Simply click this icon!
